This latest series of collagescapes are done
on small mounted boards (4”x4” by 1 ½” deep).
Furthering the idea that collagescapes are a mix of painting and collage
each one has a small hidden painting when you turn it around. A painting that reflects the place represented
in the collagescape on the front of the piece.
From the shores of Lake Tahoe to the pier at China Camp State Park in
Marin County to the view under the dome in San Francisco’s City Hall.

Bigger and Blue
Tahoe Collagescape,
mixed media on board, 24” x 36”
The latest work in my collagescape series is
also the biggest piece so far (and I want to go bigger). Anyone who has visited Lake Tahoe in person
knows there is an intense, rich blue palette found there that is not quite like
any other lake. After painting layers of
blue on paper and cutting up the pieces, I reassembled the lake (it’s somewhere
close to 20,000 pieces).

Keep Tahoe Blue
Lake Tahoe Collagescape,
mixed media on board, 8”x10”
It’s the bluest place in California but the trick is to try
to capture all the different shades of blue and the colors of the forests and
rocks along the shore. This is
another collagescape piece based on specific places that I love, have
photographed and painted often.
Each colleagscape begins with a review of my earlier paintings based on
the place as well as photos
from visits I have made there. The
next step is to paint the fields of color that, when dry, are cut up and
reassembled into a collagescape.
Prints and other accessories of some of the images from this
new series are available from Society 6. Contact me directly regarding the
originals.
The image below shows that this series of pieces are layered
and not truly flat.
