Mystery Mail Art

The nature of mail art if that sometimes you receive correspondence and you have no idea who sent it.  This one arrived from Denver left month with a bicycle-themed anagram: Living Planetside — Invites Pedalling.

Working on a very large mixed media piece.  I am glad I love yogurt and love to recycle.  If I was one of those tiresome influencers I am sure I could be getting some free product.

Moon Mail

 

 

When I saw the postage stamps commemorating the First Moon Landing — I immediately knew I need to make some lunar mail art.  This latest series includes 24 moonscape paintings with the Earth up in the sky.  It also features a reminder from the visitors that we are destroying our planet.  They seem to suggest they have sent Greta Thunberg to send us a message.  Either terrestrial or extraterrestrial, we better listen to her message and do something.

Life on K2-18b

I am in the middle of working on a very large piece of art.  The process has involved painting paper and then using a punch to make hundreds of circles.   These scraps seemed too could not to repurpose.  Maybe the inspiration came from listening to the B-52s after reading about this newly discovered planet called K2-18b.  Of course, my interest in maps has always played a role in my art.  After printing some of my digital art it all came together in a series of portal maps to reach K2-18b.  It will be the fastest way to visit the planet that is some 142 light years from Earth. 

Summer Mail Wrap-Up

 

 

 

A summer of making art and travel is wrapping up and it is time to review some of the recent mail I have received.  I love those big envelopes of collages and prints from Eastern Europe sent by Virgo and Mindaugas Žuromskas.  An envelope and note from Egg Mail Art curator Eva Mosonyi even had a Hungarian postage stamp which featured some eggs she made (I am impressed).  And how did Thea Hollister know I have always loved the Eurythmics?  This Summer’s mail art included the following:

An Inspiring Palette

With my Post-Folk Art Series, I  have been making collages from scratch, where I paint, cut and reassemble. The colors I use have been influenced by traditional Polish folk art.  This time I went to a different source, the South of France, Provence to be specific and let the warm palette of Van Gogh be my source.

Middle Ground at the Main Library

Yesterday's visit to the Steps Sale  at the main library was also my first chance to check out the Exploratorium's new installation/exhibit Middle Ground: Reconsidering ourselves and others.  
Art, community engagement and I found a tattered, but serviceable first edition of a work by Brendan Behan for the sum of $1.
