The final painting for 2013

Tanker, acrylic on paper, 8”x10”

As 2013 comes to a close I was using up some of the paint on the palette for the last painting of the year.  This one, perhaps quite appropriately, is of a ship heading out to sea.  An image from the Port of Richmond across the Bay from San Francisco.

Selections from the Christmas Mailbag

Along with all the photo cards with adorable kids, I also had some nice, hand made, Christmas mail art waiting for me when I returned to San Francisco.  Including pieces by:

  1. Jane Gravois
  2. Fleur Helsingor
  3. Dori Singh
  4. Jennifer Utter

A Samplerific Book

Last June I sent my art samples.  This week a terrific, or should I say samplerific, use of the samples was waiting for me in the mailbox.  Susanna Lakner’s little book incorporating some of the sampled art is quite wonderful.
A few more images can be seen here.

celebrate • share • create

As 2013 winds down it is the season to send out my holiday card.  This year each envelope included a postcard with an image of some new collagescape work, and a small glassine envelope with an original piece of collagescape approximately 1.25 inches square.

The back of the postcard had the following message:

When I spread my art around the world, I often use the metaphor of opening a packet of seeds and scattering them around a garden.
I never can be certain where my art will grow.
·      How will others react to it?
·      Who will appreciate it?
·      Where will my art end up?
With that idea in mind, I am celebrating the holidays by sharing small pieces of art — sending art seeds around the world to grow in the New Year.  May the coming year be filled with art.

Be inspired to be creative, express yourself and share your talents with the world!

#43 is back

The latest piece from the Millennia Mail Art Project has made it back after an 18 month journey around the globe – from Florida to Canada, to Australia to Wales and back to San Francisco.  This one with layers from Artlikeart, Stewart Charlebois, Vizma Bruns and Sarah Churchill.

MUNI to Rodeo Beach

Rodeo Beach Collagescape, mixed media on canvas, 4”x4”

One of the easiest weekend escapes from San Francisco is on MUNI’s #76 bus over the Golden Gate Bridge to Rodeo Beach.  Even if I go with friends by car, it always brings a smile on my face to see those MUNI buses looking slightly lost as they wander the windy roads and hills of the Marin Headlands.

Angel Island Summer Day

Angel Island Collagescape, mixed media on board, 6”x6”

This is the first Angel Island piece in the Collagescape Series.  This time a more summer palette with the golden grasses and historic buildings contrasted against the blue of the Bay.  There is also a dash of red tile roof and a hint of International Orange from the Golden Gate Bridge across the glistening water.  This piece reflects my most recent trip when it was just such a hot, bright, summer day.
