My holiday-themed card/mail art is usually unconventional, and this year is no exception. But what better thing to celebrate in California than with a good wet winter. So far, we are well on track. I spent a rainy weekend indoors carving rubber stamps and printing these handmade postcards. Happy Holidays!

Celebrate the Rain

2018 Holiday Card
As the year ends, I always send out a card to celebrate the holidays and commemorate the coming new year. Rarely would they be considered traditional Christmas cards. Whatever is happening the in the world, I strive for an optimistic message (this is 2017).
As the year concludes, with all the problems in the world and the embracing of ignorance and denial, it is a challenge to remain optimistic. As the smoke was clearing from the latest devastating California wildflowers, this is the card I came up with. Happy Holidays….

Make a Better World
It was a challenge to come up with an optimistic holiday
card as we end 2017. The holiday card
that was mailed out this month has a simple message for the new year — Make a Better World. In 2018, we all need to come together and do
just that.

The Last of 2016
One final trip to the post office box last week and it was
time for the 2016 Mail Art finale including these arrivals:
- Holiday greetings from MIM.
- Pamela Gerard’s Ohh Christmas Tree card.
- Peggy Eigler’s hand-cut mail art.
- Christmas greetings form Katerina Nikoltsou.
- Mail art from Adrienne Mason.
- A new piece from Torma Cauli.
- And Jennifer Utter sent mail art that might even get rid of fleas.
Now it is time to get started on the first mail art project
for 2017.

The End of the Year
Back from some holiday travel and the PO Box was full of all
sorts of greetings and mail art. They
include:
- Meral Agar’s new years greetings from Istanbul.
- Dianne O’Connell sent a new years card that repurposes one of my own open studios postcards from almost 15 years ago! The things we all save.
- A hand drawn hand postcard from Ren Fracture (I may need to frame this one).
- More holiday mail art form Katerina Nikoltsou in Greece.
- One of Amy Irwen’s Text Repurposing Series.
- And finally, new years greetings from Carolyn Oord in Québec.
What a year – and a big thank you to everyone who has been
making it worth a trip to the post office!

celebrate • share • create
As 2013 winds down it is the season to send out my holiday
card. This year each envelope
included a postcard with an image of some new collagescape work, and a small
glassine envelope with an original piece of collagescape approximately 1.25
inches square.
The back of the postcard had the following message:
When I spread my
art around the world, I often use the metaphor of opening a packet of seeds and
scattering them around a garden.
I never can be
certain where my art will grow.
· How will others react to it?
· Who will appreciate it?
· Where will my art end up?
With that idea
in mind, I am celebrating the holidays by sharing small pieces of art — sending
art seeds around the world to grow in the New Year. May the coming year be filled with art.
Be
inspired to be creative, express yourself and share your talents with the
world!
